Many of us have been watching Gary LaFontaine's battle with Louh Gehrig's disease (ALS) for the past year or so. Sadly, Mr. LaFontaine passed away on Friday, January 4, 2002.

There is probably not a fly tyer that has been tying flies for any length of time that is not familiar with Gary LaFontaine. An author of several books and many articles on fly fishing, he has taught many of his how to improve our skills.

Some of the books that he has authored include The Dry Fly: New Angles, Trout Flies: Proven Patterns, and one of my favorites, Caddisflies.

Gary was well a well loved and respected man in the fly fishing world. As a founder of Greycliffe Publishing, he dedicated a great deal of his life to helping others learn about fly fishing.

The passing of Gary LaFontaine is a huge loss to they fly fishing community, and a very sad day for those who learned from and knew of him. He was a hero to many of us.

May you Rest In Peace, Gary.
