It's time once again to announce another fly swap here at About. If you have never participated in a fly swap before, and are unsure as to what they are or how you can get in on one, read on! For veteran fly swappers, there's a nice little bonus for participating in the third swap at About, so you read on too!

First, let's get to the bonus. Jean-Guy Cote is the president and founder of Uni Products. For those who do not recognize the name, Uni has a reputation for making some of the world's best fly tying materials. Many fly patterns will call for Uni thread. In 1998, Uni Products received two separate awards; the annual Kudos Award from Fly Rod Rod & Reel and the Editor's Choice Award from Fly Fish America.

So, what's the bonus? Well, Jean-Guy has agreed to sponsor this fly swap at About! I am looking for 10 fly tyers to commit to participating, and each one will recieve an assortment of several spools of Uni Fly tying thread. Included in the package will be at least one spool of the latest 'Glo Yarn' product from Uni.

What do you have to do to take part in this swap, and not only recieve a nice bonus from Uni Products, but to also share with other fly tyers and get back flies in return? Email me and let me know your intent to participate! Obviously, there is a little more to it than that, and before you hit that send button, here are a couple of other things to think about. Here are the guidelines:

1. What type of fly do you want to tie up? Remember, you will by tying up 11 flies of a single pattern. If someone else has chosen the fly you wanted, I will let you know and ask you for a second choice.

2. I am looking for 10 participants and two alternates. The deadline for entering the swap will be September 29th. Please have your flies tied up and in the mail to me by October 10, 2000.

Although there are 10 participants, I am asking that you send me 11 so that I can send the flies out as soon as I receive them, and have the 11th on hand to photograph so that the fly swap patterns can be posted to the About Flyfishing website.

3. Please include $2.00 with your flies, as mentioned above, to help cover the cost of shipping.

4. Please send your flies in a container that is labelled with your name and address on it and which I can send back to you with the other flies from the swap.

Also remember that some participants may tie flies that are larger than yours!

5. . I would request that you send me the pattern for the fly via email in a text or Word file. This will make my job easier when posting the patterns to the site. If you want to include some comments about the fly, such as history, interesting experiences while fishing the fly, or tips on fishing the fly, please do so. It was a real pleasure reading these from many of the participants of the other swaps and I know visitors to the site also appreciate this!

6. If you intend to participate in the swap, please make a commitment to meet the deadline. There is nothing more frustrating for fly swappers who have concientiously tied their flies, sent them in and are looking forward to receiving flies back to be told that one or more of the participants is late and hasn't sent flies yet.
